After he graduated, he was hired by KFVS-TV, the #1 news station in ‘The Heartland,’ and a sister station to KTUU-TV (also owned by Gray Television). KFVS has a large new market covering a five-state radius. In the Southern Illinois bureau, Clark was part of a three-person news team sharing the responsibility of covering the entire Illinois region of the market.

According to him, Midwest was the perfect training ground for a young journalist. For two years, he chased tornadoes; listened to the woes of farmers in a trade war; reported on some of the worst floodings on record in the state; and watched municipalities struggle to deal with a drug crisis, to name a few areas of focus.

In 2019, Clark and his fellow coworkers at KFVS were nominated for a prestigious Emmy award, for their team coverage of an EF-2 tornado ripping through Paducah, KY.
