With more than 22 years’ worth of experience and as an Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor, he has traveled the world and shared stories of the people of the Tampa Bay area, Wilson would like to think he learned from the best. He anchored his station’s top-rated newscasts in Raleigh, NC, and served as a regional correspondent for NBC News. Since he joined FOX 13 in 1997, he’s been honored for his reports from Ground Zero in New York, Hurricane Katrina, won an Emmy for his reports recently following a string of deadly tornadoes in Alabama, and most recently from the scene of the deadly Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
However, his standout assignments came in 2005 embedding with a group of U.S. Army Reservists during the height of the war in Iraq, and in 2011 when he was invited to the White House for an exclusive interview with President Obama.
Wilson is very active in several charities, including the March of Dimes, Southeastern Guide Dogs, and The Wilson Family Foundation, a non-profit that he started with his parents and brothers. Wilson is an avid rock guitarist with a diverse musical background. He grew up playing the violin and singing in his mother’s church choirs only later to be heavily influenced by Eddie Van Halen. In addition, he has written and recorded several tracks for independent films and usually auctions off some of his custom guitars at Wilson Van benefit concerts and other community events.
Wilson and his brothers Paul Wilson and actor/singer Patrick Wilson got together several times a year and take the stage to perform in their rock band The Wilson Van raising money for their favorite Tampa Bay area charities.
