Diaz career started after graduating from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly SLO), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She landed her first job in television at KSBY in San Luis Obispo, and KFSN in Fresno.
In 1983, she returned to California as reporter for KABC-TV, at the station’s bureau in Orange County. where she covered major stories as a reporter at t KABC-TV, including the 1986 Los Angeles Central Library Fire, the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and the Northridge earthquake in 1994.
Diaz began working as a weekend anchor in 1985, three years later she began anchoring KABC-TV’S 6 pm weekday evening newscast. In 1997 she anchored the stations 5 pm and 11 pm news cast which led to her promotion and became the first female Hispanic lead anchor at an English language television station in Los Angeles.
In September, 2002 Diaz joined KCBS-TV as the co anchor of the CBS 2 News at 5, and 11 pm with Harold Greene, and later joined by Paul Magers as her co- anchor in 2004. After working in San Luis Obispo and Fresno, Diaz returned home to Southern California to work as a reporter,. and anchor at KABC and eventually KCBS.
She was one of the original host of the groundbreaking Vista L.A. on KABC-TV, a program in southern California to serve the English-speaking Latino audience in the region, the program won the coveted Imagen Award twice while she was co-host. She joined the FOX L.A. weekend news broadcasts alongside FOX news anchor Susan Hirasuna in May 2012.
