Before joining WJW as a sports anchor in September 1980, he was an assistant sports director of WIVB TV in Buffalo, New York. Telich is a graduate of Euclid High and Ashland College, he began his career in Ashland, Ohio, in 1972 with local radio.
Telich has won countless awards for his coverage of Cleveland sports, both professional and high school, and also he is an 11-time Emmy Award winner. His features have been honored by U.P.I., A.P., and The Press Club of Cleveland. Telich was named to the Hall of Fame by the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters and won the Chuck Heaton Award from the Cleveland Press Club in 2007. He has completed over 100 triathlons in the past 27 years, including three Ironman Distance races. In 2012, Telich completed the Burning River 100 Mile Ultra Marathon in just over 29 hours.
