Gbenga Akinnagbe Biography

Gbenga Akinnagbe is an American actor and writer born on 12th December 1978 in Washington, D.C., U.S. He is best known for his roles as Chris Partlow on the HBO series The Wire and as Larry Brown on the HBO series The Deuce.

Akinnagbe began his acting career in the theatre. In 2003 he auditioned for the role of Chris Partlow on the HBO series The Wire a starting in 2004 began a frequent recurring role and was later promoted to a series regular during the show’s fifth and final season.

In 2007 he appeared in the film ‘The Savages’. He made a guest appearance on a season 10 Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode entitled “Hell” as Elijah Okello, a former Ugandan child soldier living in New York, facing deportation. He also starred as Kelly Slater, a nurse in the third season of the Showtime series Nurse Jackie.

As a writer, Gbenga has published two articles in The New York Times, one detailing a trip to Nepal to climb the Himalayas, and the other outlining the medical procedures he underwent to correct his severely flat feet.
