She is popularly known for being one of the professional dancers on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, where she was the first female professional to win the show and the first professional to win twice and consecutively. “Dancing with the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke revealed in an emotional Instagram video Sunday that she tested positive for Covid-19 despite being vaccinated.
“The PCR test came back, and it came back positive,” she said. “I feel so bad for Cody like I’m letting him down. And it’s so overwhelming because it’s Sunday, and the show’s tomorrow.”

Burke released her autobiography, Dancing Lessons in 2011, which included in it is a description of how she was molested by a handyman helping her family at the age of 5 years old, who repeatedly fondled her. Her sister was also abused by the same man, later identified as Gerry Depaula. She knew it was not right but wanted to gain his affection. At the age of 6, she testified against Depaulaand he was sentenced to 24 years in prison from which he was released in 2008. Burke said that she is fearful of Depaula.
She has done numerous promotions outside of Dancing with the Stars which include Depend Silhouette briefs, Impress Nails, and Sargento Cheese. In addition, she partnered with companies that raised a lot of money including $50,000 dollars that Depend is donating to Dress for Success. In April 2008, she opened her first dance studio and created her own line of activewear the next year.
The People and Us Weekly reported Burke is dating Matthew Lawrence in 2008. The duo first met in 2006, when Lawrence’s brother, Joey was cast on DWTS. Burke and Lawrence previously dated from 2007–2008. He proposed to Burke on May 3, 2018, her 34th birthday. On May 23, 2019, she married Lawrence in San Diego, California. Burke suffers from tendonitis.
