Rivers has played college volleyball for the University of Florida. Rivers is the daughter of Doc Rivers, current head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, and older sister of current NBA player Austin Rivers.

Rivers played for the USA Junior National A2 Team at the USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball team and was named MVP of 2006 USA High-Performance Championships. Rivers is the first athlete in the history of Winter Park High School to have her jersey retired. She started her college volleyball career at the University of Florida in 2007.
The same year, she also recorded the fourth-highest kills per game average (2.71) and the fifth-highest points per game average (3.29) in school history by a freshman. In 2008, Rivers led the Gators to their SEC title and was named to the AVCA All-America honorable mention. In 2009, she made the AVCA All-America Third Team. In 2010, as a senior, she was named to the AVCA All-America First Team.

She played for Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida. Rivers drove Winter Park to Florida Class 6A state titles in her last three seasons. She set school profession records as positioning second in digs, third in hitting rate all-time as well as in kills, blocks, endeavors, and experts. Rivers was titled with Florida Gatorade High School Player of the Year 2006.
